About Boxcut Studio
Boxcut Studio is a subscription software studio that builds dashboards, portals, AI systems, and field tools for mining, engineering, construction, and manufacturing teams.
What Boxcut Studio does
Dashboards and reporting
Live views across sites, shifts, and KPIs for operations, ESG, quality, and safety, fed from the systems a team already uses. Board packs and site reports take minutes instead of days.
AI systems
Search over company documents, plus assistants and agents that work in the background. Every answer cites its source, so staff can check it.
Client portals
Branded spaces for clients and partners with reports, approvals, document packs, and status. They replace long email threads and give a clear audit trail.
Field data capture
Inspections, photos, signatures, and structured logs on phones and tablets. The apps work offline on site and sync when coverage returns, so the office gets clean data without re-keying.
Data visualisation
Maps, sections, timelines, and charts for geotechnical, production, and asset data. Teams spot trends across thousands of records without exporting to Excel.
Internal tools
Quoting, scheduling, asset registers, and QA checklists that replace spreadsheet workflows. Quotes and sign-offs happen the same day.
What makes Boxcut Studio different
Month-to-month, pause anytime
Boxcut Studio runs on a 30-day subscription with no minimum term. Most development agencies work on fixed-scope contracts or retainers with minimum terms. You can pause anytime, and I credit unused days to your next invoice. Billing runs through Stripe, and you cancel or update your card yourself. I pause on request the same day. Invoice and purchase order billing is available on request.
Built by an engineer from the industry
I'm Joe Ashwell, founder of Boxcut Studio. I spent ten years in engineering and manufacturing before I moved into software. Generalist agencies and freelancers rarely know geotechnical data, shift reports, or site safety processes.
Co-founder of geomechanics.io
I co-founded and built geomechanics.io, a set of calculation tools and datasets for geotechnical engineers. It is a separate product from Boxcut Studio, and it is where I learned how engineers check, trust and reuse a calculation.
Direct access to the builder
You work with the person who writes the code. Agencies usually put account managers and project managers between you and the developer.
You own your code
The code I write for you lives in your repositories and is yours once the cycle is paid. Off-the-shelf SaaS tools charge per-seat licences and keep your data on their platform.
Progress while Australia sleeps
I work from the Netherlands, so my working day starts as yours ends. Send a request in your evening, and the next morning you see progress and a short video of what changed.
Small on purpose
I work with a small number of clients at a time. More clients would mean slower replies and rushed code. If I'm full when you enquire, I'll tell you the earliest date I can start.
Software your team actually uses
Shipping the software is half the job. I plan the launch with you: who goes first and in what order. I train your team on Teams calls, give them Cap walkthrough videos and short written guides, and stay close in the first weeks to fix what trips people up.

The team behind Boxcut Studio

Joe Ashwell, founder
I'm Joe Ashwell, a mechanical engineer. I spent ten years in engineering and manufacturing, then ten years building digital products, mostly for mining, civil, and manufacturing teams.
I also co-founded and built geomechanics.io, calculation tools for geotechnical engineers.
Origin
I founded Boxcut Studio in Roosendaal, Netherlands, in 2026. I started it to give industrial teams an engineer who builds their software, without the cost of an agency or an in-house hire.
Team
Boxcut Studio is a one-person studio by choice. Every client works with me directly.
How Boxcut Studio works
Communication
I work inside your own Microsoft Teams, or by email. I record walkthroughs and updates with Cap, so every stakeholder can review on their own schedule.
Who you work with
Me, Joe Ashwell, the founder of Boxcut Studio. I do all the work, with no handoffs and no outsourcing.
Turnaround
Most requests ship within a week, and smaller items often ship faster. Larger builds split into weekly milestones.
Onboarding
We agree the first milestone on a short call before you pay. Once you subscribe, you share access to existing systems and I set up the backlog in the first week.
